Pune: Despite multiple official directives, 26 police stations in Pune have failed to establish Transgender Protection Cells, an initiative mandated by the Commissionerate of Social Welfare.

Taking serious note of the delay, the Police Commissioner has ordered immediate compliance, directing all defaulting police stations to set up the protection cells and submit a report.

According to officials, instructions for the creation of these cells were issued through a police notice on December 28, 2024. However, despite the one-month deadline, no action was taken. As a result, a wireless reminder was sent on January 29, 2025, but even after this follow-up, 26 police stations have yet to comply.

List of Non-Compliant Police Stations

The police stations that have not yet established a Transgender Protection Cell include:

Samarth, Khadak, Shivajinagar, Sahakarnagar, Lashkar, Deccan, Vishrambaug, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Sinhagad Road, Khadki, Yerawada, Kondhwa, Market Yard, Wagholi, Phursungi, Kothrud, Uttamnagar, Parvati, Alankar, Chatuhshrungi, Nanded City, Kalepadal, Mundhwa, Bibwewadi, and Loni Kalbhor.

Timeline of Official Directives

  • December 18, 2024: The Commissionerate of Social Welfare instructed all police commissionerates and superintendent offices to set up Transgender Protection Cells in every police station.

  • December 28, 2024: The Pune Police Commissionerate issued an official police notice to all police stations, directing them to comply with the order.

  • January 29, 2025: After no response, the Deputy Commissioner of Crime Branch issued a wireless communication, reminding senior police inspectors to implement the order immediately.

Police Commissioner Issues Final Warning

The lack of compliance from multiple police stations has now led to a strict order from the Police Commissioner, demanding that these stations immediately establish Transgender Protection Cells and submit a report. Officials stated that further action may be taken against stations that fail to comply with the directive.
