Pune: Despite multiple official directives, 26 police stations in Pune have failed to establish Transgender Protection Cells, an initiative mandated by the Commissionerate of Social Welfare.
Taking serious note of the delay, the Police Commissioner has ordered immediate compliance, directing all defaulting police stations to set up the protection cells and submit a report.
According to officials, instructions for the creation of these cells were issued through a police notice on December 28, 2024. However, despite the one-month deadline, no action was taken. As a result, a wireless reminder was sent on January 29, 2025, but even after this follow-up, 26 police stations have yet to comply.
