Ajit Pawar visited Chakan MIDC to inspect traffic and civic issues, urging quick solutions from officials.
He stressed that the current civic bodies are inadequate for the growing needs of Chakan, Hinjawadi, and Uruli-Devachi, Manjari, and Fursungi areas.
Pawar announced plans to form new municipal corporations in these areas, saying the decision will go ahead regardless of opposition.
Pune, 8th August 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Pune district guardian minister Ajit Pawar visited the Chakan industrial area on Friday morning to inspect civic issues, particularly the worsening traffic congestion. During his visit, Pawar interacted with officials including the District Collector and the Police Commissioner, urging immediate measures to ease traffic bottlenecks.
He stated that Chakan, which currently has a municipal council, is struggling to meet the demands of rapid industrial growth and increasing population. “The civic needs here are outgrowing the capacity of the municipal council,” Pawar said, adding that similar challenges are being seen in other fast-developing areas around Pune.
Hinjawadi, a major IT and industrial hub, is also facing limitations in infrastructure development. Likewise, the population boom and rising civic challenges in Uruli Devachi, Manjari, and Fursungi are making it difficult for existing governance systems to cope.
Pawar explained that under the current policy, areas with a population of over 5 lakh are eligible for municipal corporation status. Based on this criteria, he confirmed that the government is moving ahead with the formation of new municipal corporations for Chakan, Hinjawadi, and the combined Uruli Devachi-Manjari-Fursungi region.
“This decision will be implemented whether some people like it or not,” he said firmly, underlining the government’s commitment to planned urban development in Pune’s expanding outskirts.
