Pune: The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Pune Police Crime Branch successfully seized 77 grams of Mephedrone (MD) worth ₹15.7 lakhs during a raid at a shop on MG Road. Two individuals, Hussain Nur Khan (21) and Faizan Ayaz Shaikh (22), both residents of Kondhwa, were arrested in connection with the case.

Faizan Shaikh, who owns a key-making shop in Kolsa Galli, was allegedly using the premises for drug transactions. Acting on a tip-off received by constable Vishal Dalvi, the police laid a trap and apprehended the accused.

This operation, led by Senior Police Inspector Ulhas Kadam and Assistant Inspector Aniket Pote, highlights the city’s proactive measures to curb drug trafficking. Officers Sandesh Kakade, Vinayak Salve, Praveen Uttekar, and others were instrumental in the operation.

Stringent Anti-Drug Measures

Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, stressed the importance of strict action against drug traffickers during a meeting at the Pune Police Commissionerate. He directed officials to increase patrolling near schools and colleges to prevent the sale of narcotics and gutkha.

Additionally, Pune is set to receive advanced CCTV cameras equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to enhance crime detection. Kadam noted that such advancements would aid in addressing serious offenses effectively. The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe.
