Pune: The 18th edition of the highly anticipated Bhimthadi Jatra, celebrating Maharashtra’s rural art, culture, and sustainable practices, will commence on Friday, December 20, at the Pune Agriculture College Ground.

The festival will run daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until December 25, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the richness of rural craftsmanship and innovation.

A Platform for Cultural Exchange and Rural Entrepreneurship

Organized by Sunanda Pawar, Bhimthadi Jatra 2024 is expected to attract over one lakh visitors. This year’s event will feature 325 stalls, of which 70% are new. The festival aims to promote rural entrepreneurship and cultural exchange by offering a platform to artisans and farmers.

A key attraction will be a farmers' produce section, highlighting ‘residue-free’ products, including GI-certified items, fresh farm produce, and honey. These products aim to raise awareness about their health benefits and sustainability.

Additionally, a newly introduced plant garden will focus on the conservation of bees and butterflies, educating attendees on the critical role of pollinators in agriculture and biodiversity.

Diverse Offerings and National Participation

The Bhimthadi Select section will showcase 30 stalls from 12 states across India, featuring garments dyed with natural colors and lifestyle products crafted using traditional techniques. Telangana will debut in the Jatra this year, offering its renowned handlooms and regional delicacies.

Workshops to Highlight Traditional Artisan Skills

This year’s Jatra will also include the “Bara Balutedar” section, which honors Maharashtra’s traditional artisan communities. Workshops by cobblers, potters, and bamboo artisans will provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the crafts and trades that form the backbone of the rural economy.
