In a significant development aimed at alleviating chronic traffic congestion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated the removal of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor on Nagar Road. This move follows years of criticism and recent directives from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who emphasized the need to address safety concerns and traffic bottlenecks caused by the incomplete BRT system.

The BRT corridor on Nagar Road has been a source of frustration for commuters due to its incomplete status and design flaws, leading to frequent accidents and traffic jams.Local residents and politicians have long advocated for its removal, citing the need for smoother traffic flow and enhanced safety.

A meeting chaired by Ajit Pawar led to the decision to dismantle the BRT corridor, with the aim of improving traffic conditions and preventing accidents. Former MLA Sunil Tingre played a crucial role in highlighting the urgency of addressing traffic woes on Nagar Road.

The PMC has started dismantling the BRT lane, marking a significant step towards easing congestion on Nagar Road. Around 2.5 km of the BRT corridor had already been removed prior to this latest initiative. In addition to the BRT removal, Ajit Pawar has approved the extension of a two-tier flyover from Wagholi to Viman Nagar, further enhancing traffic infrastructure in the area.

While some residents welcome the removal as a solution to traffic congestion, others express concerns about the impact on public transport and the need for alternative solutions. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has supported the removal, warning of public agitation if the BRT corridor was not addressed promptly.
