Pune: Citywide 24-Hour Ban on Heavy Vehicles to Prevent Accidents and Congestion

Essential service heavy vehicles will be permitted to enter the city only between midnight and 6 AM. However, they must strictly follow designated routes.

Pune Traffic Police has imposed a 24-hour ban on heavy vehicles across the city. This ban applies to multi-axle vehicles, containers, trailers, and bulkers with more than ten wheels. However, six to ten-wheeled goods vehicles will be allowed only on designated routes between midnight and 6 AM.

To implement the new traffic control measures effectively, the Pune Traffic Police, PMC, and other concerned authorities are jointly enforcing the restrictions. As part of these efforts:

  • Heavy vehicles are completely restricted from entering the city.

  • The Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway is exempted from the ban.

  • Certain city routes have been declared ‘Red Zones’, where entry will be allowed only with prior permission from the Traffic Department.

  • Heavy vehicle owners must apply for special permission if they need access to restricted routes.

According to DCP Traffic Amol Zende, essential service heavy vehicles will be permitted to enter the city only between midnight and 6 AM. However, they must strictly follow designated routes such as Nagar Road, Kharadi Bypass, Alandi Road, Holkar Bridge, and specific detours for vehicles arriving via Solapur Road.

Restricted Routes for Heavy Vehicles

The Traffic Police have identified major city roads where heavy vehicles will not be allowed. Some of these restricted routes include:

  • Nagar Road: Restricted between Vimannagar Chowk and Datta Mandir Chowk.

  • Yerawada and Koregaon Park: No entry from Parnakuti Chowk towards Koregaon Park.

  • Baner and Paud Road: Restricted entry from Radha Chowk to Baner and from Paud Road to Nal Stop.

  • Sinhagad and Satara Road: No entry from Rajaram Bridge to Swargate or from Market Yard Chowk to Swargate.

  • Solapur Road: No entry from Seven Loves Chowk towards Timber Market and Swargate.

Other restricted areas include key roads in Kharadi, Hadapsar, Bhairoba Nala, and Magarpatta.
