Pune 4th August 2025: A construction worker lost his life after receiving a high-voltage electric shock at a housing project site in the Fursungi area of Pune. The incident occurred due to safety negligence while construction work was underway near overhead power lines.
The deceased has been identified as Pawan Ditya Nayak, 33, a native of Madhya Pradesh. According to police reports, the accident happened when Nayak, who was working on the site, accidentally touched a live power line with a wet bamboo stick.
The project was under construction near Harpale Vasti in Fursungi, located along the Hadapsar-Saswad Road. The site is in close proximity to high-tension electric towers of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). Despite this, construction activity was ongoing without adequate safety protocols.
Initially, the incident was registered as an accidental death. However, following an on-site inspection, police found that the construction workers had not been provided with necessary safety equipment or precautions. This led authorities to file a criminal case against the developer, Sheshrao Mohite, for gross negligence resulting in loss of life.
Police Sub-Inspector Vinod Pawar from Fursungi Police Station has filed the official complaint. The case highlights ongoing concerns about labour safety at unregulated construction sites in rapidly growing parts of Pune.
