Pune: In a significant judgment, a fake doctor practicing without a medical degree was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the Khadki Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Court.

The court, presided over by Magistrate L.V. Shrikhande, also imposed a fine of ₹2,000 on the accused, Milankumar Amar Thakur (34), a resident of Dhanori, originally from West Bengal. If the fine is not paid, the accused will serve an additional 15 days of imprisonment.

Thakur was found guilty of treating patients without proper medical qualifications. Acting on a tip-off, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s health department initiated an investigation.

Dr. Rekha Umesh Galande, a medical officer, lodged a complaint with the Vishrantwadi Police, leading to Thakur’s arrest. A large stock of medicines was seized from his unauthorized clinic during the raid.

Assistant Police Inspector Suryakant Marude, who led the investigation, submitted a detailed charge sheet in court.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Sayali Thokal argued the case, supported by Assistant Sub-Inspector Patil and constables Kolpe and Patil, who played a crucial role in court proceedings. The court, taking into account the evidence and testimonies, convicted Thakur and handed down the sentence.
