Pune Crime: Five Ghaywal Gang Members Held in Kothrud Shooting Case

Road dispute in Kothrud leads to gunfire, leaving one man critically injured; police continue hunt for another accused

Pune, 20 September 2025: Pune police have placed five members of the notorious Ghaywal gang in custody until September 25 following a shooting in Kothrud.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night near Mutheshwar Chowk. Prakash Madhukar Dhumal, 36, from Wakad, was standing with friends when a dispute over road space with bikers escalated into gunfire. Dhumal was seriously injured.

Those arrested include Mayur Gulab Kumbare (29), Anand Anil Chandlekar (24), Ganesh Satish Raut (32), Mayank alias Monty Vijay Vyas (30), and Dinesh Ram Pathak (28), all residents of Kothrud. They were produced in court Friday, which ordered seven days of police custody.

Another accused, Rohit Akhade, remains absconding. Assistant Police Inspector Ravindra Alekar is leading the ongoing investigation.
