The theft occurred at the residence of a constable in the Wanawadi area of Pune. Sharma, who had deserted the army before completing his service, broke into the house when the constable's wife was away. He stole 21 tolas of gold jewelry, which he later sold in Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. The constable reported the incident to the police, leading to a swift investigation.

The Wanawadi police launched a comprehensive investigation, analyzing CCTV footage from over 50 locations and tracking Sharma's movements across several states. He was finally apprehended in Satara while traveling by bus. The police recovered 16 tolas of gold jewelry from him, valued at a significant portion of the stolen amount.

Sharma's involvement in online gambling is believed to have driven him to commit the crime. His addiction led him to seek quick financial gains, resulting in this brazen act of theft. The police are investigating whether he was involved in other similar crimes.

The military community has expressed concern over the incident, with the Southern Command of the Indian Army commending the police for their swift action. The case underscores the need for vigilance within military circles and the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies.
