Pune Crime News: Karvenagar Jeweller Duped by Fake Cop, Gold Chain Stolen

The suspect put the gold chain around his neck on the pretext of buying jewellery. He then pulled the wallet out of his pocket and placed it on the counter of the jeweller.

Pune: A gold chain was stolen from a jewellery shop in Karvenagar area on the pretext of being a policeman, police said on Sunday. Police have checked the CCTV footage and are looking for the thief.

A jeweller has lodged a complaint at Warje police station. A case has been registered against the thief.

According to police, the complainant, a jeweller, owns a jeweller's shop at Rajmata Chowk in Karvenagar. One person came to the shop on Tuesday evening.

He told the jeweller that he was a cop. He put the gold chain around his neck on the pretext of buying jewellery. He then pulled the wallet out of his pocket and placed it on the counter of the jeweller.

The packet had rs 50,000 in cash written on it. "You make the bill, we'll be here in two minutes," the thief said as he walked out of the store.

The jeweller opened the packet. It was then revealed that instead of money, the wallet contained a thin sheet of paper in the newspaper. After realising the fraud, the jeweller lodged a complaint at Warje police station.
