Pune: In a shocking drunk driving incident late Sunday night, a woman police constable was seriously injured when a speeding car hit her at a checkpoint in the Mills area of Pune. The incident occurred at around 1 a.m.
The injured officer, identified as Deepmala Raju Nair, was on duty when a car, driven by an individual under the influence of alcohol, struck her. Despite her attempts to evade the vehicle, the collision resulted in severe injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accused had been drinking at a nearby pub before driving recklessly through the area.
The incident occurred near Naidu Lane on the stretch from Ruby Hospital toward the RTO office, under the Bund Garden Police Station jurisdiction.
Constable Nair was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Police have registered a case against the driver and are actively searching for the accused.
High-Speed Bike Collision Injures Two on Pune-Satara Road
Pune: A head-on collision between two high-speed bikes in the Padmavati area on Pune-Satara Road left two riders seriously injured on Sunday evening. The accident occurred near the D-Mart store in the BRT lane at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The collision involved a Pulsar and an Activa, severely injuring both riders. Among the injured are Sudhir Auti, aged 35, and another young individual whose identity has not been disclosed.
Traffic police responded promptly, providing immediate medical assistance to the injured and transporting them to a private hospital for further treatment.
Residents in the area have expressed concerns about reckless driving and frequent violations of traffic rules, particularly on the BRT lanes. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
