Pune: Four separate fire incidents in different areas of the city on Friday (December 13) afternoon created panic and resulted in one fatality. The fires occurred in Kondhwa, Yerawada, and Shivajinagar areas, with the most severe one taking place in a sofa manufacturing factory in Kondhwa’s Yewalewadi area.
Around 1:30 p.m., a fire broke out at the sofa factory while welding work was being carried out. The blaze was intensified by the explosion of a small gas cylinder stored inside the factory. Firefighters worked for over an hour to control the fire. Tragically, a worker, Haroon Ahmed Khan (45), sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
In another incident at 2:30 p.m., a transformer in the premises of a building in Kondhwa’s Mithanagar area caught fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames promptly, and no injuries were reported in this incident.
At around 3:00 p.m., a closed wooden house near Sancheti Hospital in Shivajinagar caught fire. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, but no casualties were reported.
Meanwhile, in Yerawada’s Laxminagar area, a fire broke out on the first floor of a residential building in a densely populated neighborhood. Firefighters from Yerwada and Dhanori stations quickly brought the situation under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident either.
The fire department continues to investigate the causes of these incidents and has urged citizens to ensure fire safety measures in workplaces and residences.
