Pune: Prices of key vegetables such as garlic, cauliflower, cabbage, and drumsticks have witnessed a 10-15 per cent decline due to an increase in supply at Pune’s Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard. Meanwhile, prices for other vegetables have remained stable, according to wholesale traders.
On Sunday (March 2), Pune’s wholesale market received a large influx of vegetables from both within Maharashtra and other states. A total of 90 truckloads of fresh produce arrived, including:
Garlic: 10-12 tempo loads from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh
Green chilies: 7-8 tempo loads from Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh
Cabbage: 3-4 tempo loads from Karnataka and Gujarat
Beans: 3-4 tempo loads from Karnataka and Gujarat
Drumsticks: 5-6 tempo loads from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu
Carrots: 7-8 tempo loads from Rajasthan
Green peas: 8-10 truckloads
While the prices of several vegetables have dropped, leafy greens such as fenugreek (methi), coriander, spring onions, radish, and spinach have seen a rise in prices due to seasonal demand.
The current wholesale prices per 100 bunches of leafy vegetables are as follows:
Coriander: ₹800-₹1500
Fenugreek (methi): ₹800-₹1200
Spring onions: ₹600-₹1000
Dill leaves: ₹600-₹800
Radish: ₹800-₹1200
Spinach: ₹800-₹1200
Fruits See a Price Hike Due to Summer Demand
The rising summer heat has led to an increase in demand for watermelon, muskmelon, papaya, and lemons, causing a price surge.
Watermelon and muskmelon prices have increased by ₹2-₹5 per kg
Lemon prices have increased by ₹200 per 15-20 kg sack
However, the prices of pineapples, oranges, sweet limes (mosambi), pomegranates, and chikoos remain stable.
On Sunday, the fruit market received:
Mosambi: 40-50 tons
Oranges: 50-60 tons
Pomegranates: 15-20 tons
Papaya: 8-10 tempo loads
Lemons: 1,200-1,300 sacks
Watermelon: 50-60 tempo loads
Muskmelon: 30-40 tons
Chikoo: 2,000 crates
Guava: 10 tons
Pineapple: 5-6 truckloads
