Pimpri: A tragic accident on the Pune-Nashik highway claimed the life of a woman who had prayed for her family’s well-being at the Shri Khandoba temple in Kharpudi.
The incident occurred on Saturday (December 7) afternoon, and further distress followed when the gold necklace she was wearing went missing while her body was being transported to the hospital.
The victim and her husband, a retired senior government officer, had traveled on a two-wheeler to the temple in Khed Taluka to observe Champa Sashti.
After completing their prayers, they began their return journey. Around 1:45 PM near Waki village, a speeding vehicle collided with their two-wheeler, causing both to fall.
The husband sustained minor injuries, but his wife, Mangala, suffered severe head injuries as the vehicle's rear wheel ran over her.
An ambulance was called to the scene, and Mangala was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The body was later transported to Chakan Rural Hospital for an autopsy at around 2 PM.
Mangala was wearing a five-tola gold necklace at the time of her death. However, when her relatives arrived at the hospital shortly after, they discovered that the necklace was missing.
Police are investigating the case from both angles—whether the necklace was stolen or misplaced. Sub-Inspector R.B. More from Chakan Police Station stated that efforts are ongoing to trace the missing jewelry.
