Pune: The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro project is nearing completion, with a trial run expected to take place soon. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is overseeing the project, has confirmed that three metro coaches have already arrived, while the fourth is set to be delivered by the end of March.

This metro corridor, connecting Hinjewadi (Mann, Megapolis) to Shivajinagar, is the third metro route linking Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The fully elevated metro line spans across the Pune-Bengaluru Highway and the Mula River, making it a crucial addition to the city's public transport network.

While a major portion of the work is complete, significant construction is still pending at Baner, Sakal Nagar, and Civil Court metro stations. Additionally, staircases and other essential infrastructure at 11 stations are yet to be installed. Once these tasks are completed, PMRDA will proceed with the trial run.

Due to delays in project execution, PMRDA has penalized the contractor and granted a six-month extension to ensure timely completion. The new target is to complete all remaining work by October 2025.

According to PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, the project has already reached 82 per cent completion. He stated that metro coaches are currently undergoing inspection, and after a successful trial run, the metro service will be officially launched for the public.
