In the clip, Sudame played a devotee purchasing a Ganesh idol from a sculptor. When the sculptor’s son Abbu entered, the sculptor seemed unsure if Sudame would still buy the idol. Sudame assured him he wanted to buy it from their family. The reel ended with a message inspired by his father: people should be like sugar that sweetens both kheer and sheer khurma, and like bricks that help build both temples and mosques.

While many praised the sentiment, others accused Sudame of hurting religious feelings. The reaction quickly turned hostile, with trolling, abuse, and even threats. Under pressure, Sudame deleted the video and clarified that he never meant to offend anyone.

The matter intensified when the Brahman Mahasangh reacted to the controversy. Its office-bearer Anand Dave said Sudame should stick to entertainment and avoid commenting on sensitive religious issues. He added that Hindus know their traditions and do not need advice on unity.

The episode has divided opinion in Pune. Supporters argue that the reel carried a positive message and did not deserve backlash, while critics believe that faith-related matters should not be addressed casually online.
