Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has approved a ₹4,503 crore budget for the 2025-26 financial year, prioritizing major infrastructure projects, including the Yerawada-Katraj underground tunnel, road connectivity development, and procurement of 500 new CNG buses for PMPML. The decision was made in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, and PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase.
To ease traffic congestion in Pune, the Yerawada-Katraj underground tunnel will be constructed using the Twin Tunnel method, integrating modern engineering solutions. CM Fadnavis instructed officials to immediately submit a detailed project proposal and use advanced tunneling technology.
Given the complexities of urban expansion, PMRDA will execute development plans in two phases:
Phase 1: Focuses on essential infrastructure, including road construction, sewage management, water supply, electricity provision, crematoriums, and burial grounds.
Phase 2: Will incorporate additional public facilities to meet future needs.
Emphasizing sustainable development, the Chief Minister also directed authorities to implement water recycling technology to address future population demands.
PMPML had requested 500 buses, and a ₹250 crore budget provision has been approved for their purchase. These CNG buses aim to improve Pune’s public transport system. CM Fadnavis stressed the need for efficient management to prevent operational challenges in the future. Additionally, the allocation of land in Pune Raj Bhavan premises for Metro’s flyover service was approved for immediate execution.
