Pune: On the occasion of Gudi Padwa, Pune witnessed a significant surge in gold purchases, with jewelry stores across the city experiencing heavy footfall. Despite record-high gold prices, customers remained eager to invest in jewelry and gold assets.
Gudi Padwa is considered an auspicious time for gold purchases. This year, 24-carat gold prices soared beyond ₹90,000 per 10 grams, yet the enthusiasm among buyers remained undeterred.
Major Gold Markets Witness High Customer Turnout
Jewelry markets in Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Tulshibaug, Appa Balwant Chowk, Deccan, Kothrud, and Sonya Maruti Chowk were packed with buyers throughout the day. Customers purchased a wide variety of gold items, including traditional jewelry, mangalsutras, bangles, rings, gold coins, and bars.
According to traders, the sales volume on Gudi Padwa exceeded expectations. Special festival discounts and offers further encouraged customers to make purchases.
Changing Buying Trends and Investment Strategies
While women primarily focused on purchasing new jewelry, many preferred handcrafted and designer pieces. The younger generation leaned toward lightweight and trendy jewelry. Some buyers, considering the rising gold prices, adopted a gradual investment approach, buying small quantities at regular intervals.
Online purchases also saw a significant increase, reflecting changing buying patterns. "Gold prices have risen considerably in the past two years, and experts believe this trend will continue. We took advantage of the festival offers and purchased jewelry for our daughter's wedding," said Avinash Patil, a working professional shopping for gold.
