Pune: A 38-year-old Kashmiri man, accused of raping a woman and extorting ₹45 lakh from her under false promises of marriage, has been arrested by Pune police from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Investigations have revealed that he had similarly deceived multiple women in Delhi, Faridabad, Bhopal, and Indore using fake marriage proposals.

The accused, identified as Aman Premlal Verma (38), a resident of Bishnah, Jammu & Kashmir, created a profile on a matrimonial website and used it to contact women looking for marriage. He gained their trust, promised marriage, and later exploited them financially.

A woman from Hadapsar, Pune, fell victim to his scheme. Under the pretext of marriage, Verma raped her and fraudulently took ₹45 lakh from her before disappearing from Pune.

Following a complaint lodged at the Kalepadal Police Station, Pune police began tracking Verma’s location. They discovered that he had absconded to Madhya Pradesh. A special investigation team was dispatched, leading to his arrest in Indore.

During interrogation, Verma confessed to deceiving multiple women in Delhi, Faridabad, Indore, and Bhopal using the same method. The police have confirmed that further investigations are underway to uncover additional victims.

The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajkumar Shinde. The Kalepadal Police team, including Senior Police Inspector Mansingh Patil, Assistant Inspector Vilas Sutar, and constables Yuvraj Dudhal and Shrikrishna Khokale, played a crucial role in tracking and arresting the accused.
