Pune, 19 August 2025: The irrigation department has announced that water discharge from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha river basin will be raised on Tuesday afternoon following continuous heavy rainfall in the catchment area.
The release, which stood at 11,878 cusecs in the morning, will be increased to around 15,442 cusecs by 2 pm. Officials added that the discharge may be adjusted further depending on rainfall and the inflow into the reservoir.
By 3 pm, the flow into the river is expected to reach nearly 19,334 cusecs. As a result, water levels in the Mutha river through Pune are rising rapidly.
Mohan Bhadane, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division in Swargate, said citizens must remain vigilant. People living on the riverbanks and low-lying areas have been advised to take necessary precautions in view of the fluctuating discharge levels.
