Pune: In light of the expected crowd during Christmas celebrations on Wednesday, December 25, traffic arrangements in the Camp area of Pune have been modified.
Authorities have announced that Mahatma Gandhi Road (M.G. Road) will be closed to traffic if the crowd density increases, and vehicles will be redirected to alternative routes. The announcement aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety during the festive period.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende has urged commuters to use the designated alternative routes and cooperate with the authorities.
Traffic Diversions and Routes
The modified traffic arrangements will come into effect at 7 PM on Wednesday (December 25) and will remain in place until the crowd subsides. Key changes include:
Traffic heading to M.G. Road from Y Junction: Vehicles will be stopped at 15 August Chowk and redirected via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
Traffic from ISKCON Temple to Aurora Towers: Redirected via Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue Chowk to Teen Tofa Chowk.
Traffic from Volga Chowk to Mohammad Rafi Chowk: Vehicles will be diverted via East Street to Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Traffic from Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk: Restricted, with vehicles rerouted towards Lashkar Police Station.
Traffic from Sarbatwala Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk: Diverted through Taboot Street.
The traffic department has assured that these measures are temporary and will be lifted once the crowd dissipates.
Public Cooperation Requested
The traffic department has requested public cooperation in following the alternative routes to avoid congestion and ensure a hassle-free experience for everyone. These measures have been implemented to handle the large number of visitors expected to gather in the Camp area for Christmas celebrations.
