Pune: In response to rising incidents of reckless driving in areas such as Balewadi, Pashan, and Sus, MLA Chandrakant Patil has instructed Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi to enforce stringent measures against offenders.
He also urged police officials to enhance patrols and establish more outposts within the jurisdiction of the newly operational Baner Police Station.
Background of the Incident
The directives came after a reckless driving incident in Baner on Thursday, where the driver of a Gloster SUV crashed into five vehicles, spreading panic in the area.
To address public concerns, MLA Patil visited Baner Police Station to review the situation and discuss preventive measures.
Meeting Highlights
During the visit, Senior Police Inspector Bolkotgi provided a detailed account of the incident and ongoing actions. MLA Patil stressed the need for immediate and firm action against those who create fear through reckless driving.
Officials in attendance included DCP Hemant Jadhav (Zone 4), ACP Anuja Deshmane (Khadki Division), Traffic Inspector Sarode, and other senior personnel. Local BJP leaders were also present.
Safety Measures for Vulnerable Spots
MLA Patil highlighted the importance of securing vulnerable areas in Pune, including over 13 hills and 7 black spots.
The Pune Police have initiated measures to install CCTV cameras and lighting in these areas to prevent illegal activities and accidents. Strict enforcement of these safety measures has been instructed.
Development of Police Infrastructure
To address the city’s expanding boundaries and growing law-and-order challenges, the Home Department has sanctioned seven new police stations under the Pune Police Commissionerate, with a total budget of ₹60 crore.
Baner Police Station is among these, receiving ₹8.60 crore for its development. MLA Patil assured continuous efforts to enhance resources, manpower, and outposts in the future to improve public safety.
