Pune’s Muslim community has postponed the annual Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession to September 8, as it clashed with Ganesh Visarjan on September 5.
The decision was taken in coordination with police to prevent traffic chaos and maintain communal harmony.
Community leaders assured the procession will remain devotional, with no DJs or loud music, strictly following sound restrictions.
Pune, 1st September 2025: The Muslim community in Pune has decided to postpone the annual Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession from September 5 to September 8. The change comes as September 5 coincides with Ganesh Visarjan, which draws lakhs of devotees and processions across the city.
Traditionally, the Eid procession begins at Nanapeth, passes through Camp, and ends near Ganesh Peth, routes that are also heavily used during Ganesh immersions. To avoid congestion, traffic problems, and security issues, community leaders agreed to shift the procession by three days.
The decision was taken after discussions between Muslim representatives and senior police officials, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma. Social activist Anwar Hussain Shaikh, who attended the meeting, said the change was made in the larger interest of the city. He recalled that a similar adjustment was made last year when the two festivals overlapped.
Daily commuters have also welcomed the move, saying it will reduce traffic pressure on festival days and make travel easier for office-goers and passengers.
Community leaders stressed that the procession is purely religious and spiritual in nature, involving Quran recitation. They assured that no DJs or loud music would be allowed and that the event would follow Supreme Court guidelines on sound restrictions.
