Pune: In response to the recent murder of a young woman at a BPO office in Viman Nagar, Pune Police has introduced new safety guidelines for women in workplaces, particularly in the IT and BPO sectors.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced these measures during a meeting at Magarpatta City IT Park, attended by IT company officials, employees, and law enforcement officers.

Strengthened Safety Protocols for IT and BPO Companies

Pune has a large number of IT and BPO companies, where women often work late-night shifts. While most companies provide transport facilities, past cases have shown that some crimes were committed by cab drivers.

Following previous assaults and murders of female employees, Pune Police had earlier introduced security protocols for companies. However, the recent Viman Nagar incident has once again raised concerns, leading to the revised set of safety measures, which will now be strictly enforced.

Key Provisions of the New Guidelines:

• Mandatory CCTV Cameras at all entry points and critical areas of company premises.

• Regular police inspections of workplaces with a higher number of female employees.

• Mandatory background verification and police clearance certificates for all drivers transporting female employees.

• Direct communication channels between company security officers and police officials to ensure quick response in emergencies.

• Awareness campaigns under the ‘My Safe Pune’ initiative, including posters and QR codes for quick access to police assistance.

• Increased police patrolling in company areas to enhance security.

• Internal safety committees within companies to address security concerns and provide immediate support to women employees.

Commissioner Kumar emphasized that compliance with these guidelines is mandatory, and companies will be held accountable for ensuring women’s safety. With these new measures in place, Pune Police aims to enhance security and prevent future incidents in the workplace.
