PUNE, 14 August 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a new mobile application, “PMC Road Mitra,” allowing citizens to report potholes directly to the civic body. Within 24 hours of its launch, the app received 43 complaints from different parts of the city.

The app, inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram on Tuesday, enables users to upload two to three photos or a video of the pothole. Each submission is tagged with location coordinates, which are automatically forwarded to the junior engineer of the concerned road department zone.

Once a complaint is received, the engineer must visit the site, carry out repairs, and upload ‘before-and-after’ photos. These images will be visible to the complainant, ensuring transparency. PMC officials have stated that all pothole-related complaints will be addressed within 48 to 72 hours, and complainants will receive SMS updates on the status and the officer handling their case.

Until now, citizens could register complaints through PMC Care, email, or the ‘Aaple Sarkar’ website. However, officials admit that action on these platforms was often slow and inconsistent. The Road Mitra app is designed not only to make it easier for residents to report road issues but also to fix direct accountability on the responsible civic officials.
