Pune: Price Drop in Leafy Greens, Onion Prices Surge

Vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, flat beans, cluster beans, cabbage, capsicum, and peas experienced price drop. Onions saw price increase due to lower arrivals compared to demand.

Pune: The Pune Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Gultekdi witnessed an influx of around 100 trucks of vegetables on Sunday (January 19), including supplies from within Maharashtra and other states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. However, post-Sankranti, the supply of vegetables has declined, and prices for certain vegetables have fallen due to limited demand.

Vegetable Market Insights

Vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, flat beans, cluster beans, cabbage, capsicum, and peas experienced a price drop.

Onions saw a price increase due to lower arrivals compared to demand.

Supplies included:

  • Local Sources: 500 sacks of Satara ginger, 7 tempos of okra, 10,000 crates of tomatoes, and 75 truckloads of onions.

  • Outstation Sources: 15 trucks of carrots from Rajasthan, 20 tempos of peas from Madhya Pradesh, and 6 tempos of drumsticks from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Vegetable Prices (per 10 kg):

  • Onion: ₹250–₹320

  • Potato: ₹140–₹210

  • Tomato: ₹40–₹50

  • Green Chilies: ₹400–₹450

  • Drumsticks: ₹550–₹650

Drop in Leafy Vegetable Prices

The prices of leafy vegetables such as coriander, fenugreek, spring onions, and mint declined by 10-20%. Coriander arrivals were estimated at 1.25 lakh bunches, while fenugreek and chickpea greens stood at 70,000 and 20,000 bunches, respectively.

Fruit Market Update

In the fruit market, watermelon and papaya prices rose, while prices of lemons, pineapples, pomegranates, sapotas, and oranges remained steady. Key arrivals included:

10 tempos of watermelons, 7 tempos of pineapples, and 35 tons of pomegranates.

Fruit Prices:

  • Lemons (per sack): ₹300–₹900

  • Papaya (per 10 kg): ₹10–₹35

  • Oranges (per 10 kg): ₹250–₹800

Flower Market Update

The flower market saw a 10% increase in marigold prices due to reduced supply. Other flowers, including roses and lilies, maintained steady pricing.

Flower Prices (per kg):

  • Marigold: ₹30–₹50

  • Roses: ₹150–₹250 (20 stems)
