Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has witnessed a massive surge in orders for High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) ahead of the April 30 deadline. As per the latest data, the Pune RTO has received 2,16,751 orders, with 79,483 vehicle owners booking appointments and 40,924 vehicles already fitted with the new plates.

With Maharashtra making HSRP mandatory for all 2.1 crore vehicles, vehicle owners have rushed to complete the process, leading to record-breaking orders.

Increase in HSRP Installation Centers to Address Delays

In response to rising complaints about appointment unavailability, Pune Deputy RTO Swapnil Bhosale has announced an expansion of installation centers.

"Earlier, we increased the number of HSRP installation centers from 69 to 124. We are now planning further expansion based on vendor performance to ensure faster processing," Bhosale said.

What is HSRP and Why is it Important?

The High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is a government-approved plate with enhanced security features designed to prevent vehicle theft and counterfeit number plates.

Key Features of HSRP:

  • Anti-Theft Security: The plates feature a chromium-based hologram and laser-encoded number, making tampering and duplication difficult.

  • Prevents Fake Number Plate Use: Unlike regular plates, HSRP plates come with a permanently embossed registration number and tamper-proof locks, reducing misuse.

  • Enhances Digital Tracking: Each plate is assigned a unique serial number, improving RTO and traffic police monitoring of vehicles.

  • Supports Fuel and Pollution Control: Integration with FASTag and VAHAN database helps track vehicle compliance, aiding pollution control and reducing fuel theft.

RTO Urges Vehicle Owners to Book Appointments in Advance

The Pune RTO has urged vehicle owners to schedule their HSRP installation appointments promptly to avoid last-minute rushes and potential penalties.
