Pune: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) is set to cancel the trade certificates of eleven vehicle dealers who sold vehicles to customers without proper registration.
The dealers were issued show cause notices asking why their trade certificates should not be canceled. While some responded, others did not. Out of these eleven dealers, five are based in Pune and the remaining in other cities.
The Pune RTO has directed the respective RTO offices in these cities to take necessary actions against the concerned dealers, while the Pune RTO will handle the dealers within Pune.
This decision follows a vehicle inspection campaign initiated by the Pune Regional Transport Department in response to a road accident in Kalyani Nagar.
During this campaign, the Vayuveg team discovered eleven unregistered two-wheelers on the roads. Dealers were given a seven-day period to explain the violations after receiving the notices.
According to the Motor Vehicle Act, the Pune RTO is now set to take action against these five Pune-based dealers. The duration of the penalties has not yet been determined.

Potential Penalties
The RTO administration can suspend trade certificates for seven, 15, or 21 days under the Motor Vehicle Act. During the suspension period, the dealer cannot sell any vehicles, and their login ID provided by the RTO will be blocked, effectively halting their sales operations.
This unprecedented action by the Pune RTO has generated widespread discussion among the community. The crackdown marks the first of its kind by the Pune RTO.
Following the Kalyani Nagar accident, the Pune RTO administration had initiated an enforcement drive starting May 22. 59 drivers were caught driving under the influence, and 11 vehicles were seized for being on the road without proper registration.
