Pune, 1st August 2025: The Chandan Nagar police have registered a case against six individuals for allegedly entering a residence in the Chandan Nagar area, harassing a family, and attempting to provoke communal discord.
The incident occurred on the night of July 26 near Pathare School. According to the FIR lodged by Police Constable Pradeep Dhumal, the accused, identified as Khushal Pawar, Shantaram Kavare, Ganesh Khavne, Suraj Jadhav, Ganesh Shinde, and Sairaj Pawale, barged into the home of Shamshad Shaikh and demanded identity documents such as Aadhaar and PAN cards. They allegedly abused the family members and assaulted a 14-year-old boy.
Following the incident, the accused reportedly defamed a journalist and two social activists by labelling them as “jihadis” on social platforms, which further worsened the situation by hurting religious sentiments and creating tension between two communities.
In the days after the episode, members of the ex-servicemen community visited the home of Kargil war veteran Hakimuddin Shaikh in a show of support. His family had earlier reported being targeted and harassed by individuals allegedly associated with a right-wing group.
Police Sub-Inspector Ajay Asawale is leading the ongoing investigation into the matter.
