Pune: Rising summer temperatures have fueled a surge in demand for cold beverages, subsequently leading to an increase in sugar and jaggery prices. Over the past week, sugar prices have risen by ₹50 per quintal, while jaggery prices have increased by ₹50 to ₹100 per quintal in the wholesale market.

Despite the upward trend in sugar and jaggery prices, green peas prices have hit their lowest levels due to an influx of fresh stock from Uttar Pradesh. The wholesale market has been witnessing a continuous drop in green peas prices, with rates plummeting by ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 per quintal over the past week.

Fluctuations in Other Commodities

  • White Peas: Low supply has resulted in a ₹200 per quintal price increase.

  • Kabuli Chana (Chickpeas): Increased availability has led to a sharp ₹1,000 per quintal decline.

  • Pulses (Tur Dal, Matki, Masoor, Urad Dal): Prices have remained stable due to balanced supply and demand.

  • Gram Dal (Chana Dal): Weak demand has caused a ₹100 per quintal drop, leading to a ₹50 per 50 kg reduction in besan (gram flour) prices.

Additionally, a slight decline in edible oil prices has been reported due to lower consumer demand.

The wholesale market continues to experience price volatility, particularly in seasonal commodities affected by changing weather conditions and supply fluctuations.
