Pune, 22 July 2025: A woman working in the tech industry and residing in a high-profile society in Pune’s Kondhwa area has been booked for filing a false rape complaint and misleading the police. On July 2, she alleged that a courier boy had forcefully entered her home and raped her.
Given the serious nature of the complaint, the police launched a swift investigation. Over 500 CCTV footage were reviewed, and detailed questioning was conducted. However, during the probe, inconsistencies in her version came to light.
It was soon established that the alleged rapist was not a courier boy but a friend of the techie. Further investigation revealed that the two had willingly taken photos together. Shockingly, the woman had later edited these images to fabricate a false narrative.
Using these doctored photos as evidence, she lodged a rape complaint, which was later proven to be baseless. Police have now registered a non-cognizable offense against her for filing a fake complaint and attempting to mislead investigators.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “Based on the various evidence that we have gathered, including the mobile communications, and also based on the sequence of events that has been ascertained, we have reached a conclusion that it is not a case of rape.”
He further added, “It is worrying that the police were misled in this case. False complaints cast credibility issues on genuine complainants. It is a long-term disservice to the criminal justice system.”
Police are currently investigating the motive behind the false allegation. Officials have stressed that strict action in such cases is necessary to avoid misuse of legal mechanisms and ensure that police time and resources are not squandered.
