Pune: Amid an increasing number of thefts in Pune, including house burglaries and mobile and jewelry snatching, an unusual case of theft has been reported from the premises of the Chatuhshrungi police station.

In a startling incident, thieves made away with tires and headlights from vehicles seized by the police in connection with serious crimes.

The incident came to light when the Chatuhshrungi police discovered that eight tires and five headlights had been stolen from two vehicles parked in an open space adjacent to the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus.

The vehicles, part of the evidence in serious criminal cases, were stored in a designated parking area managed by the police.

According to officials, the police station premises have a pathway connecting them to the university campus, which may have been exploited by the thieves.

The total value of the stolen items is estimated at ₹1,10,000. This incident has raised concerns about the security measures for evidence storage, especially vehicles, within police premises.

Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Suryakant Jadhav lodged a formal complaint at the Chatuhshrungi police station, and a case has been registered against unidentified perpetrators.

Assistant Police Inspector Narendra Jadhav is leading the investigation into the incident.
