Tankers with leaks, even if payment (challan) is made, will not be serviced. PMC has allowed a grace period until January 15 for tanker operators to comply.

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a stern warning to tanker drivers to stop water leakage from their vehicles, citing risks of slippery roads and accidents. Starting January 15, tankers without proper lids or those leaking water will not be allowed to fill at PMC-operated tanker filling stations.

This decision comes in response to frequent complaints about water spilling from tankers onto roads, making them slippery and hazardous, especially for two-wheeler riders.

The combination of water and oil on roads has led to several accidents and injuries. Despite these risks, many drivers neglect to install lids on their tankers or repair leaky valves.

PMC provides water through tanker filling stations across the city to address shortages caused by uneven water distribution. The demand for these services has grown as citizens rely on tankers for drinking water. However, the lack of compliance by tanker drivers has prompted PMC to enforce stricter measures.

As per the new guidelines, tankers must have securely fitted lids to load water. Vehicles with leaks, even if payment (challan) is made, will not be serviced. PMC has allowed a grace period until January 15 for tanker operators to comply.

“Strict implementation will ensure safer roads and prevent accidents caused by negligence,” said Nandkishor Jagtap, head of PMC's water supply department.
