Pune: A shocking case has emerged in Pune, where a 25-year-old woman doctor ended her life after being deceived by a man who falsely promised to marry her. The accused, who was already married, created a profile on Jeevansathi.com claiming to be single and built a relationship with the woman, ultimately taking ₹10 lakh from her under false pretenses.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Kuldeep Adinath Sawant (30), registered on the matrimonial website as unmarried despite being married. He met the complainant, Popat Fadtare, during a meeting in Dehu. However, the family found Kuldeep's demeanor and clinic unsuitable and rejected the proposal.
Undeterred, Kuldeep secretly reached out to Pallavi Fadtare, the complainant’s daughter, who was a BHMS doctor running her clinic at Tuljabhavani Society in PMT Colony, Bibvewadi.
Kuldeep allegedly ensnared Pallavi in a romantic relationship, promising marriage and gaining her trust. Over time, he took ₹10 lakh from her under various pretexts. When Pallavi eventually pressed for marriage, Kuldeep revealed that he was already married and that his wife was pregnant. This revelation deeply distressed Pallavi, who then demanded that Kuldeep return the ₹10 lakh. However, Kuldeep began avoiding her.
Suicide Note and Tragic Death
On January 7, unable to cope with the betrayal, Pallavi left a suicide note and consumed poison at her clinic. She was rushed to a hospital, but despite medical treatment, she passed away on January 8.
Family Seeks Justice
Popat Fadtare, Pallavi’s father, has alleged that Kuldeep Sawant is responsible for his daughter's death. He stated, “Kuldeep deceived my daughter by hiding his marital status. He came to visit her in the hospital while she was undergoing treatment, but we could not take any action at the time due to the situation. We demand justice for our daughter.”
The Bibvewadi police have registered a case against Kuldeep under relevant sections. Police Sub-Inspector Shashank Jadhav is currently investigating the matter.
