Pune: A disturbing case of harassment has surfaced in Pune, where a man made obscene remarks toward a professor and sent her inappropriate messages.
The accused, identified as Joshua Ireland (35), reportedly obtained the professor's phone number by falsely claiming he wanted to enroll his child in an English-speaking class. The incidents occurred over a period spanning from November 14, 2024, to January 9, 2025.
A 47-year-old woman, the complainant in the case, approached Bundgarden Police Station after enduring persistent harassment. According to the complaint, the accused sent messages to her phone that were offensive and embarrassing.
Furthermore, the accused allegedly stood near her residence with friends and made lewd comments whenever she dropped her children at school or returned home from work.
The complaint also states that the accused attempted to establish contact with the professor against her will and stalked her regularly. Despite her clear disinterest, the harassment continued in the form of messages and unwelcome advances.
Speaking with mediapersons about the case, Police Sub-Inspector Dheeraj Gupta confirmed that the police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and have launched an investigation. Assistant Inspector Dr. Arifa Mujawar is leading the inquiry into the matter.
