Pune: A disturbing incident of child sexual harassment has come to light at Karegaon Zilla Parishad School in Pune district. A teacher has been accused of misbehaving with minor girls and threatening them to remain silent, prompting outrage among parents and the local community.
The incident came to light when the victims, students of grades six and seven, informed their parents about the teacher’s inappropriate behavior. Following this, the parents, along with the school staff and local officials, reported the matter to the principal. The principal immediately lodged a formal complaint at the Ranjangaon MIDC Police Station.
The accused teacher, identified as 52-year-old Anil Mahadev Shelke, a resident of Sone Sangvi in Shirur Taluka, was arrested by the police.
According to reports, Shelke allegedly misbehaved with girl students, touched them inappropriately, and engaged in actions that caused embarrassment and distress. He had also threatened the students to prevent them from revealing the incidents.
Police Inspector Mahadev Waghmode confirmed that a case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused teacher is now in police custody, and further investigation is underway to gather evidence and ensure justice for the victims.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of children in schools. Parents and local residents have demanded stricter measures to prevent such incidents and ensure that schools remain safe environments for learning.
