Pune: In a shocking revelation, police investigations have confirmed that the minibus fire in Hinjewadi, which claimed the lives of four people, was not an accident but a premeditated act. The bus driver, Janardan Hambardikar (56), has confessed to setting the vehicle on fire out of frustration against his company.

Driver’s Inconsistencies Led to Police Suspicions

Initially, Hambardikar’s statements did not align with eyewitness accounts, raising doubts among the investigating officers. Senior Police Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat and Sub-Inspector Datta Kale conducted detailed interrogations, during which Hambardikar frequently changed his statements.

Further technical analysis and CCTV footage provided critical evidence, leading to his confession. Hambardikar admitted to planning the incident as an act of revenge against his company’s management, alleging unfair treatment at work.

A Tragic Miscalculation: Innocent Lives Lost

According to Hambardikar, his intention was not to harm any specific individuals but to create trouble for the company. However, the fire resulted in the death of four employees, none of whom had any connection to his grievances.

"My anger was directed at others, but these people lost their lives for no fault of their own. I only wanted to make a point to the company," he told the police.

Investigation Findings: Key Revelations

  • Conflicting Witness Statements: Survivors and other employees on board provided varying versions of events.

  • Suspicious Behavior Captured on CCTV: Hambardikar’s movements before the fire raised red flags during the investigation.

  • Rear Exit Mystery: Authorities are probing why the rear door was not opened, which could have allowed more people to escape.

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigation

Hinjewadi police are now investigating whether Hambardikar acted alone or had accomplices. He is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and will be presented in court soon.
