Pune: The re-measurement of the protected 'Red Zone' areas in Dehu Road and Dighi has been completed by the state's Land Records Department using satellite technology.

An accurate and clear official map is being prepared, which will soon be available to the public, resolving longstanding confusion about the Red Zone boundaries.

The Red Zone, which includes the defense department's areas adjacent to Pimpri-Chinchwad city, extends 2,000 yards (1.82 kilometers) from the outer boundary walls of the Dehu Road Ammunition Factory and Dighi Magazine Depot.

Despite construction prohibitions, unauthorized residential buildings have proliferated within the Red Zone, where over 3,000 industrial establishments have operated for the past 40 years. This has affected approximately 500,000 residents in the city.

The re-measurement addresses the lack of precise boundary demarcations or counts of residential and commercial properties in the Red Zone. Areas affected include Dighi, Bhosari, Wadmukhwadi, Talwade, Rupinagar, Yamunanagar, Nigdi, Ravet, Kiwale, Sangvi, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Pimpri Village, Kasarwadi, and Dapodi.

The re-measurement, conducted at a cost of Rs 1.13 crore with defense department approval, is in its final stages, and large stones marked with boundary indicators will be placed once the map is published.

Satellite-Based Measurement

The Land Records Department completed the satellite-based measurement from the outer boundary walls of the Dehuroad and Dighi depots to the designated limits, documenting all properties, constructions, open spaces, roads, trees, and other resources.

"The Red Zone boundary measurement is complete, and the Land Records Department is working on the map. The accurate map of the Red Zone will be available within a month," stated Prasad Gaikwad, Deputy Director of the Town Planning Department.
