Pune: In a shocking incident of reckless driving in Pune, a 30-year-old two-wheeler rider narrowly escaped after jumping onto the bonnet of a moving car to save his life.
The incident took place on Solapur Road near Bhairobanala Chowk when a senior citizen driving a speeding car refused to stop after hitting a two-wheeler. Instead, the driver accelerated, carrying the victim on the bonnet for nearly 1.5 kilometers before being stopped by citizens at a traffic signal.
The Wanawadi police have arrested the car driver, Rajiv Krishnakumar Burman (60), on charges of attempted murder. The victim, Abhijit Yeduba Golait (30), suffered injuries but survived the ordeal.
Around 9 PM on Saturday, Burman’s car rear-ended Golait’s two-wheeler near Bhairobnala Chowk. Golait parked his vehicle to check for damage and began taking pictures of the car on his mobile phone. This angered Burman, who allegedly attempted to run Golait over with his vehicle.
Sensing danger, Golait jumped onto the car’s bonnet to avoid being hit. Instead of stopping, Burman continued driving for about 1.5 km, carrying Golait on the bonnet until they reached 93 Avenue Mall Chowk.
At a traffic signal, citizens stopped the car and restrained Burman, handing him over to the police. The Wanawadi police have registered a case of attempted murder against Burman. Further investigations are underway.
