Pune: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has reportedly uncovered undisclosed assets worth ₹300 crore linked to former Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta.

The department has concluded a confidential inquiry and is now seeking official approval to conduct an open investigation. If permitted, this will be the first time a high-ranking IPS officer in Maharashtra faces such a probe.

The probe began following a complaint by RTI activist Sudhir Alhat. Based on the findings of the initial inquiry, ACB has formally requested approval for an open investigation. If granted, the case could become more serious for Gupta.

According to Alhat, Amitabh Gupta has amassed significant real estate assets across multiple states, amounting to ₹300 crore or more. Some of the notable properties include:

  • A luxurious villa in the Sweet Water Villas project at Amanora Township, Pune, valued between ₹25 crore to ₹30 crore.

  • A high-end flat worth ₹22 crore in Santacruz, Mumbai.

  • Additional land holdings and properties in other states.

Allegations of Arms License Corruption

During his tenure as Pune Police Commissioner, Gupta allegedly issued 800 to 1,000 arms licenses and charged between ₹15 lakh to ₹20 lakh per license. This allegation has raised serious concerns regarding misuse of power and corruption within the police department.

Pending Approval for Open Investigation

Despite six months having passed since the request for an open inquiry, official permission has not yet been granted. RTI activist Alhat has demanded that the approval process be expedited to ensure a transparent and detailed investigation.

The case is now under close scrutiny, and further developments will depend on the decision regarding the open inquiry request.
