Pune: Devotees from across Maharashtra gathered at Gorakshanath Tekdi, located near Shewalwadi-Tambademala along the Pune-Nashik National Highway, to seek the blessings of Lord Shani on the auspicious occasion of Shani Amavasya. The temple witnessed a massive turnout of over 10,000 devotees on Saturday (29th).
Shani Amavasya officially began on Friday (28th) at 7:55 PM, and by early Saturday morning, long queues of devotees had formed at the temple premises. The air resonated with devotional chants as people waited to catch a glimpse of Lord Shani and perform sacred rituals.
Traditional Abhishek and Aarti Performed
The ritualistic Abhishek (ceremonial bathing of the idol) was conducted on behalf of the Khetanathji Maharaj Trust. The event was presided over by Sharad Cooperative Bank Chairman Devendra Shah, along with trustee Milind Khude, entrepreneur Arvind Valse Patil, Rishikesh Gawade, Sachin Shah, Arjun Thorat, and Sanjay Mishra. The puja was performed by priests Mahesh Pol and Amit Soman.
Following the Abhishek, a grand Navagraha Puja was held, and devotees continued to arrive throughout the day for darshan. The ceremonial evening aarti was performed by Ramesh Rao Yewale, Nilesh Thorat, Madhuri Shete, and Suresh Bhore, further enhancing the spiritual atmosphere.
Devendra Shah: Temple to Become a Major Pilgrimage Site
Addressing the gathering, Devendra Shah shared insights into the temple's history, stating, "The idol of Lord Shani at Gorakshanath Tekdi was installed 20 years ago by Mahanth Shri Shri 1008 Yogi Ravinathji, also known as Khadeshwari Maharaj. This sacred site is gradually gaining recognition and may soon witness a surge in devotees, similar to Shani Shingnapur."
Devotees from Across the State
Pilgrims traveled from Khopoli, Lonavala, Pune, Manchar, Rajgurunagar, and Narayangaon to participate in the religious festivities. Many performed the ritualistic Abhishek of Lord Shani, while others engaged in special prayers and offerings.
Free Prasad Distribution and Festive Atmosphere
A mass Prasad distribution was inaugurated by Mahanth Yogi Kishannathji Maharaj, Mahanth Tufannath Maharaj, Yogi Mirchinath Maharaj, Kishore Advani, and former Pune Zilla Parishad President Shailaja Shivajirao Dhoble. Devotees were also seen purchasing ritualistic items such as oil, betel leaves, coconuts, sweets (pedha), and puja materials.
