Pune: Veteran actor Rahul Solapurkar is in the midst of a major controversy after making controversial statements about Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during a podcast interview. His remarks have sparked outrage, leading to a police complaint filed against him in Pune. The Sambhaji Brigade has demanded his immediate arrest and legal action under the Atrocities Act.
The Sambhaji Brigade lodged a complaint at Parvati Police Station in Pune, stating that Solapurkar should be arrested and booked under the Atrocities Act. However, police officials have not yet taken any legal action against him.
During a recent podcast, Solapurkar made controversial remarks about two of India’s most respected historical figures:
On Shivaji Maharaj: Solapurkar claimed that Shivaji bribed the Mughal army for his release from Agra.
On Dr. B.R. Ambedkar: He referred to the Vedic belief that a person’s caste is determined by their deeds, not birth, and stated that Dr. Ambedkar could be considered a Brahmin based on his actions.
These statements have led to strong political backlash. Many have accused Solapurkar of distorting history and hurting the sentiments of millions. Following his remarks, angry political activists staged protests outside Solapurkar’s residence in Pune.
Sensing the growing backlash, Rahul Solapurkar issued a public apology via video, claiming that he did not intend to disrespect these great leaders. Jitendra Awhad alleged that Solapurkar deliberately made these remarks to incite social divisions.
Udayanraje Bhosale also strongly condemned Solapurkar’s statements on Shivaji Maharaj. The controversy continues to stir public debate, with demands for legal action and accountability against the actor.
