Scrap Shop Blast: Worker Killed, Three Injured in Cylinder Explosion on B.T. Kawade Road

Pune: A tragic incident occurred on B.T. Kawade Road when a tank exploded at a scrap shop, killing one worker and injuring three others. The explosion took place at 5:29 PM while the tank was being cut open.

The deceased, identified as Mehmood Sheikh (50), a resident of Ramnagar, Ramtekdi, succumbed to fatal injuries caused by the explosion. The injured have been identified as Kishor Salve (40), Dilip Misal (40), and Mohammad Syed (50), who is also the owner of the scrap shop.

According to fire brigade officer Pramod Sonawane, a small cylinder-like tank was brought to the scrap shop owned by Mohammad Syed. While Mehmood Sheikh was attempting to cut it open, the tank exploded, causing catastrophic injuries to him and injuring the others standing nearby.

Locals, alerted by the loud explosion, rushed to the site and transported the injured to Sassoon General Hospital for treatment. Fire department personnel and Mundhwa police arrived at the scene shortly after to conduct an investigation.

Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the explosion to determine the exact cause.

In October 2024, a gas cylinder explosion at Siddhivinayak Hotel in Chikhali injured four people after an attempt was made to change the cylinder regulator while the gas was still in operation.

The injured, identified as Rupali Bhosale (36), Datta Nikam (27), Vaibhav Mandve (26), and Soham Marathe (18), were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Triveni Nagar for treatment.
