Pune: A senior citizen from Pune fell victim to a cyber fraud scheme while attempting to remarry.

The 72-year-old divorcee, who had registered on a matrimonial website, was lured into a trap by cybercriminals who eventually extorted ₹72,000 by threatening him with legal action and the release of an obscene video.

According to the complaint filed at Alankar Police Station, the fraudsters included a woman named Manisha Sharma and her accomplices, Vikram Rathod and Rahul Sharma.

The woman initially contacted the victim, claiming to have his personal details, and later threatened to release an explicit video on social media.

Rathod, posing as a Delhi Police officer, further intimidated the victim by warning of legal consequences. Rahul Sharma continued the threats, coercing the victim into transferring ₹72,000 to their bank account.

Upon realizing the fraud, the senior citizen approached the police. Senior Inspector Sangeeta Rokde confirmed the registration of a case and stated that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
