Pune: A revised plan for constructing a flyover and grade separator at the congested Shastrinagar Chowk in Yerawada is in the works, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) taking steps to move the project forward.

The revised design options are being developed and will be presented to the PMC's Estimate Committee within the next week. Once approved, the project is expected to proceed to the next phase.

The initiative to build a flyover and underground passage at Shastrinagar Chowk was originally part of the broader development plan aimed at easing traffic congestion in the area.

However, the close proximity of the historic Aga Khan Palace to the proposed construction site posed technical challenges.

To address this, PMC officials from the Special Projects Department sought approval from the National Monuments Authority in Delhi by presenting their case to obtain a 'No Objection Certificate' (NOC) from the Central Archaeological Department. After some delays, the NOC was finally secured, clearing the way for the project.

Due to the increasing traffic and evolving circumstances, the PMC initiated efforts to revise the flyover plan. Consultants are conducting comprehensive planning activities, including traffic surveys and soil tests, to ensure the project's feasibility.

The General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) for the flyover and grade separator has now been prepared, encompassing various design options and technical specifications.

This detailed plan will soon be presented to the Estimate Committee, after which the project is expected to advance through the necessary procedural steps.

Abhijit Ambekar, Executive Engineer of the Special Projects Department, confirmed that the General Arrangement Drawing has been finalized, and the revised flyover plans will be presented to the Estimate Committee in the upcoming meeting.
