Pune: The Swargate Bus Depot sexually assault case has triggered widespread concern over passenger safety, as shocking lapses in security have come to light. A 26-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted inside an abandoned bus, raising serious questions about the law and order situation at the depot.
In a midnight reality check, Saam TV’s investigative team visited Swargate and Shivajinagar bus depots to assess the safety conditions. The findings were deeply concerning, with poor lighting, absence of security personnel, and the presence of drug addicts creating an unsafe environment for passengers.
Security Issues at Swargate Bus Depot
Several areas within the depot remained dark, leaving passengers vulnerable.
The bus where the crime occurred was under police surveillance, but no security guards from the transport department were present.
Women passengers expressed fear due to the presence of unknown men sleeping around the ticket counter area.
Drug addicts were found occupying the depot premises, making the environment unsafe for travelers.
Shocking Findings at Shivajinagar Bus Depot
No police or security personnel were present during the inspection at 12:15 AM.
Many parts of the depot were completely dark, raising concerns over passenger security.
Several buses had drivers and conductors asleep inside, with no visible safety measures.
Passengers were seen sleeping in open spaces near the depot, while drug addicts roamed freely in the area.
The women’s safety shelter (Hirkani Katta) was shut, and no police help center was visible.
This expose has raised alarms over the lack of safety measures at two of Pune’s busiest bus depots. With no immediate security enhancements in place, the risk to women and other passengers remains high.
