Pune: Police investigations have revealed that Shubhada Shankar Kodare, the 28-year-old deceased victim, had allegedly betrayed her colleague Krishna Satyanarayan Kanoja which led to the fatal confrontation in the parking lot of WNS company in Yerawada on January 7 evening.

Meanwhile, Kanoja has been remanded in police custody till January 13 by the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) after he was produced in the court on Wednesday (January 8).

Shubhada had borrowed ₹4 lakh from Krishna over a period of time, claiming the funds were needed for her father’s diabetes treatment and surgery. However, Krishna’s suspicions were aroused when her financial demands continued without repayment. To verify her claims, he visited her father in Karad, who denied needing surgery or asking for money.

Feeling betrayed, Krishna confronted Shubhada at their workplace, demanding repayment. The confrontation escalated, and in a fit of rage, Krishna attacked her with a sickle. The attack severed veins in her hand, leading to severe blood loss. Shubhada, who had a pre-existing low blood sugar condition, succumbed to cardiac arrest caused by the excessive bleeding.

Following the incident, Krishna was immediately arrested and confessed during interrogation. Police stated that Shubhada’s family has not yet provided their version of events.

Shubhada and Krishna had been colleagues at WNS Company since 2022, working in different sections of the accounts department. Originally from Karad, Shubhada lived in Pune with her sister, Sadhana, who filed the police complaint. Krishna also had professional interactions with Sadhana, primarily regarding financial matters.

According to police, Krishna had lent money multiple times to Shubhada, believing her claims about her father’s illness. However, her refusal to repay the borrowed amount and the subsequent discovery of her deception led to the fatal altercation.
