Pune: In a disturbing incident on Saturday (September 21) morning, a brother and sister were arrested for verbally abusing and assaulting police officers after being questioned in connection with a public harassment case in the Tukai Tekdi area of Phursungi.

The Hadapsar police have identified the accused as Swapnil Dinesh Surwade, aged 20, and his sister Pooja Dinesh Surwade, aged 25, both residents of Kalepadal.

The incident unfolded around 11 AM on Saturday (September 21) when police constable Sagar Suryawanshi was patrolling near the Old MHADA Colony, monitoring the Eid-e-Milad procession.

While passing through the Tukai Tekdi area, constable Suryawanshi noticed a young man grabbing a girl's hand. Concerned for the girl's safety, the officer stopped to question the individuals involved.

The inquiry, however, took an unexpected turn when Swapnil and Pooja Surwade, who were present at the scene, became hostile. The siblings allegedly began verbally abusing constable Suryawanshi, prompting the police to call them to the station for further questioning.

The situation escalated at the police station, where the duo continued their verbal assault and went as far as physically pushing and shoving police constable Shelar.

Following the incident, both Swapnil and Pooja were arrested by Hadapsar police on charges of assaulting a public servant and obstructing the law.
