Pune: Flyover construction on Sinhagad Road is causing severe traffic congestion during peak morning hours, frustrating thousands of daily commuters. Cranes positioned across the road have blocked half the lanes, leading to long queues and extended travel times.
The flyover project, which aims to reduce congestion, spans Rajaram Bridge to Funtime Cinema and is 85% complete. However, ongoing work on the remaining sections, particularly between Vitthalwadi and Hingne, is creating traffic bottlenecks.
Construction Work Hampers Commuters
During the morning rush hour, cranes and heavy equipment block Swargate-bound lanes, forcing traffic to a crawl. Commuters traveling from Nanded City to Lokmanya Nagar report that travel times have increased by more than 40 minutes.
Dust, debris, and uneven road surfaces due to ongoing work are causing additional difficulties. Two-wheeler riders are particularly affected by slippery roads and potholes.
Citizen Complaints
"Flyover work during peak hours is unacceptable. Roads need to be cleared for smooth traffic flow," said a frustrated commuter.
"The canal road as an alternative is now overcrowded, adding to delays and stress," shared another office-goer.
PMC Steps In
PMC officials have promised to take action:
Instructions will be given to contractors to avoid peak-hour road closures.
Steps will be taken to repair potholes and clear debris.
Contractors will be advised to plan work better and reduce commuter inconvenience.
